Spray Painting System
A spray painting system is a complete arrangement of equipment used to prepare, apply, dry and manage liquid coatings on industrial workpieces.
Compared with purchasing a single spray booth or spray machine, a complete system considers the relationship between coating application, workpiece movement, ventilation, surface preparation and drying or curing.
For different production requirements, the system can be configured for manual, semi-automatic or automatic operation. The equipment combination is determined by the product, coating process, required output and factory conditions.
A System Designed Around the Coating Process
There is no single configuration that fits every spray painting application. A system for electrical cabinets may have different requirements from one designed for steel structures or large machinery components.
The main factors considered during system design include:
Workpiece dimensions and weight
Surface material and condition
Type of liquid coating
Required coating quality
Production capacity
Number of colors or coating stages
Automation requirements
Available factory space
Energy and utility conditions
Based on these factors, ZHYAO can develop the equipment arrangement and process flow for the specific application.

Complete Spray Painting System Configuration
Surface Preparation
A clean and properly prepared surface provides the foundation for the subsequent coating process. Depending on the workpiece material and surface condition, the system can incorporate chemical pretreatment, immersion treatment, shot blasting or other suitable preparation methods.
The selected pretreatment process depends on the coating system and the condition of the incoming workpieces.
Spray Painting Area
The spray area is the main coating application section of the system. It is designed according to the dimensions of the workpieces, spray method, coating characteristics and required production capacity.
The configuration may include a dry-filter spray booth, water-curtain booth or another suitable booth structure.
Paint Application Equipment
Different spray methods can be integrated according to the application. Manual spray guns are suitable where operator flexibility is important, while automatic spray guns can be used when product dimensions and production cycles are consistent enough for automated application.
The spray equipment, gun quantity and arrangement are selected according to the workpiece geometry and coating requirements.
Exhaust and Filtration
Spray painting generates overspray and exhaust that need to be properly handled. The ventilation and filtration system is designed together with the spray booth to establish the required airflow and capture overspray.
The filtration configuration depends on the coating process and equipment design.
Drying and Curing Section
After painting, the coating may require a controlled drying, flash-off or curing stage. The appropriate equipment depends on the coating formulation and process specifications.
Heating can be configured using electric, gas or other suitable systems according to the project conditions.
Conveying and Workpiece Transfer
For continuous production, a conveying system can connect different process sections and move workpieces through the line.
Overhead conveyors, floor conveyors and customized conveying arrangements can be considered according to product dimensions, weight, loading method and production cycle.
Control and Process Coordination
A spray painting system needs coordinated control of its individual sections. The control system can manage conveyors, spray equipment, ventilation, heating and other related equipment.
PLC control, touch-screen operation, sensors and safety interlocks can be incorporated according to the required automation level.
Typical System Process
Loading → Surface Preparation → Drying → Spray Painting → Flash-Off / Drying / Curing → Cooling → Unloading
This is a general process arrangement. The actual sequence and equipment combination are adjusted according to the coating material, workpiece characteristics and production requirements.
Configuration for Different Production Needs
Manual Spray Painting System
A manual configuration provides operators with greater flexibility when products vary significantly in shape, size or production quantity. It can be suitable for large workpieces, irregular structures and production involving frequent product changes.
Semi-Automatic Spray Painting System
A semi-automatic configuration combines automated equipment with operator-controlled operations. It can reduce repetitive work while maintaining flexibility for processes that still require manual intervention.
Automatic Spray Painting System
An automatic system can integrate automatic spray guns, conveyor movement and process controls for applications with relatively consistent workpieces and production cycles.
The automation level should be selected according to the actual production process rather than simply increasing the number of automated components.
